Roadmap Dilemma in the Era of S/4 HANA Analytics Existing SAP BW Customers Migrating ECC to S/4
What happens to my existing BW/HANA investment?
New Customers Implementing S/4 (no existing SAP BW) Should I go with ONLY BW/HANA Analytics?
Can I get instant insight into inventory position? Should I go with ONLY S/4HANA Analytics?
Do I need to migrate all analytics to S/4HANA Analytics?
Any improvement in operational reports like back orders?
How do I start the analytics roadmap?
What should be my future analytics roadmap?
Is it possible to make a decision as a transaction happens?
Do I need to invest in S/4HANA Analytics?
Is it possible to get a faster financial close?

Embedded BW: Use Case
In general, SAP recommends using Embedded BW only for the SAP standard scenarios. Beyond those cases, particular rules and limitations apply, for example:
Embedded BW is not intended for building an Enterprise Data Warehouse
The amount of data persisted in the Embedded BW should not exceed 20% of the overall data volume of the system. This applies to:
‒
Extraction from own Suite/S/4HANA system
‒
Integration of data from external applications
‒
Data from planning applications
License implications: ‒
Security/authorizations: ‒
Use of BPC requires a separate license
Embedded BW relies on a separate authorization concept. Authorizations from Suite/S/4 HANA do not apply, but should be mapped, if required
Client Distribution: ‒
If the ERP system has only one client, Embedded BW can run in the same client or a separate client.
‒
When multiple clients are deployed in an ERP system for organizational reasons, SAP recommends using a dedicated client for Embedded BW (for development and administration purposes)

What is BPC Optimized for S/4HANA earlier known as IBPF? Enables financial planning capabilities provided by SAP BPC by seamlessly integrating SAP ERP user interfaces and workflows, by effectively replacing the current financial planning capabilities in SAP ERP Data replication between solutions is no longer required Plans developed in SAP BPC will be accessible in SAP ERP for variance analysis
SAP BPC will be able to access real time master data and actuals maintained in SAP ERP Enables not only entering and reporting on planned data, but to model and calculate the required plan values all in a single application Supports integrated business planning across the various finance functions such that planning within one area automatically updates corresponding planned values within other areas (eliminates silos) Built upon the BPC Embedded Model Data is contained across areas in a real time InfoCube of the local BW (eBW) IBM Proprietary | © 2017 IBM Corporation
11
Planning: Before (ECC-based planning) and After (BPC optimized for S/4HANA planning)

12
What does BPC optimized for S/4HANA offer? BPC optimized for S/4HANA is an add-on for Simple Finance on S/4 HANA, which sits on the eBW instance within S/4 HANA and is designed in a way that no data loading is required.
The add-on consists of a series of info providers, input-ready queries, planning functions, and workbooks based on Analysis for Office. The data is read from the finance tables using a HANA model, which means everything is in real time as the whole system works on the same data used by the new Central Finance. BPC Optimized for S/4HANA offers a replacement to the classic R/3 transactions for planning.
There are several components: ‒ Cost Center Planning ‒ Internal Order Planning ‒ Project Planning ‒ Cost of Sales Planning ‒ Profit Center Planning ‒ P&L Planning ‒ Market Segment Planning ‒ Balance Sheet Planning ‒ Liquidity Planning The data for each component is stored in the same BW cube, so data cannot be moved across multiple cubes. Which means, if a change happens in budget of a cost center, the same can be picked up immediately by someone working on the cost element view. There are some planning functions available out of the box to copy from actual data in order to manage the different versions and top down disaggregation. IBM Proprietary | © 2017 IBM Corporation
13
What does BPC optimized for S/4HANA offer? (continued) The front end for BPC optimized for S/4HANA is Analysis for Office.
By default there are 14 workbooks and each module can be planned by year or fiscal period.
These workbooks are easy to customize so that each customer can add its brand identity into the planning front end. It‘s just an excel screen, so logo, corporate font and other branding details can be implemented with low effort.
We can also leverage new functionalities using SAP BPC embedded (for instance we can activate a BPC model and build a business process flow).
The product comes ready to use—just activate and start planning.

Embedded BW activation along with BPC optimized for S/4HANA (1 of 3) Ensure the following components at a minimum are installed (higher version recommended to resolve configuration issues – OSS Note 1972819 for follow up details): ‒ ‒ ‒ ‒
SAP_BASIS 740 SP10 SAP_ABA 740 SP10 PI_BASIS 740 SP10 SAP_BW 740 SP10
Activation of Embedded BW has to be conducted in each system (Development, test, production) separately. This is part of the system setup and part of customizing. Decide which client to use as BW client. Log on to the particular client and execute all subsequent steps within that client. In most cases, the productive client is used as the BW client. In some cases, there might be an existing setting for the BW client in the table RSADMINA, even if no BW is used in the system. Check it before and correct as necessary: ‒ ‒
Use transaction SE16 to display all data in the RSADMINA table Under CUSTOMIZID, if the entry is BW but the corresponding entry under BWMANDT is not the client used above then start transaction SE37, enter function module RS_MANDT_UNIQUE_SET and click Test/Execute. Enter the BW client you want to use in field I_MANDT and click EXECUTE. The BW client is now set. If there is no such entry or the BWMANDT field is empty then there is no need to run function module RS_MANDT_UNIQUE_SET
Customizing steps for activation of Embedded BW: ‒
Assign logical system client: • • • • •
Under Controlling -> General Controlling -> Planning -> Setup for Planning -> Define Logical system (define the logical system & then assign it to BW client) Choose Assign Logical system to Client Under Controlling -> General Controlling -> Planning -> Setup for Planning -> Assign Logical System to Client (select the client that you have chosen as BW client) Check the settings of ‗Cross-Client Object Changes‘ and use either ―No Changes to cross client customizing‖ or ―Changes repository & cross client customizing allowed‖ Set the logical system to the one you created before

How does S/4HANA impact BW? (1 of 3) Embedded BW as such is not recommended for persistence of data apart from the CDS views, which it leverages for the BW data models and the Transient queries to report on the data.
So as referred to in the potential use cases for S/4HANA Analytics, CDS views available will also benefit the extraction towards SAP BW along with the existing (most of them) SAP BW extractors. Due to some tables now only available as views and some aggregate tables not completely available the pre-analysis for impact is a must by referring to the simplification list released by SAP along with the restriction notes per release of 1511, 1610 to be referred to (sample list shown below of tables that are not available)

How does S/4HANA impact BW? (2 of 3) The extractors related to deprecated functionality or Add-Ons, and so on that due to S/4HANA simplification will not be available after conversion and accordingly the downstream ETL, modeling, queries also will be affected.
DataSource adjustments might be required to comply with changed scope and data structures within S/4HANA by each release. This should be verified on customer-specific basis depending on various fields and enhancements added or AddOns installed/configured. For instance, after the upgrade to S/4HANA all DataSources in the source system are deactivated and should be activated again by replicating and activating the DataSources again due to Material length changing from 18 to 40 characters. Consequentially the persistency tables in the SAP BW staging area are to be extended to 40 characters around the same. For very basic scenarios, the S/4HANA database interface layer of NetWeaver redirects all extractor related SELECTs to compatibility views, which retrieves the same data based on the new data model (ACDOCA, MATDOC and also backup tables).
IBM Proprietary | © 2017 IBM Corporation
28
How does S/4HANA impact BW? (3 of 3) In addition to the impact of some deprecated extractors, you also will have some extractors leveraging the CDS views for extracting the data. These can be identified based on CDS views which are annotated with ―@Analytics.dataExtraction.enabled:true‖
This ability is typically lost on the level of consumption views where joins, procedures and aggregations ―blur‖ the relation to the primary data.

29
Must-knows before starting SFIN/S4HANA implementation Introduction of one line item table with full detail for all FI-CO components : Universal Journal table – ACDOCA as the Single Source of Truth. Contains all fields for G/L, CO, AA, ML & PA. Compatibility views *V_
(e.g. V_COEP, FAAV_ANEK) Provided to enable non-disruptive reporting on old tables. Access to content of old tables is still possible via views *V__ORI (e.g. V_COEP_ORI, FAAV_ANEK_ORI).
IBM Proprietary | © 2017 IBM Corporation
30
What is new in BW extraction with SFIN/ S4HANA? Introduces two new data sources based on ACDOCA table for FI-GL data extraction to BI. 0FI_ACDOCA_10
0FI_ACDOCA_20
Extracts newly posted, cleared, reversed, and changed documents in delta mode
Used for balances and/or financial statements reporting
It is not designed for extraction of typical AP and AR fields, for example, ZFBDT, ZBD1T, ZBD2T, ZBD3T, NETDT. In order to extract these fields, please use, for example, 0FI_AP_4 or 0FI_AR_4 or 0FI_GL_14 (3FI_GL_xx_SI)
Extracts only newly posted documents in delta mode. Cleared, reversed, and changed documents are not extracted in delta mode.
No SAP delivered BI content available
Delivers additive data Does not fill the non-cumulative key figure BALANCE due to data volume and performance reasons by default, special start routine needs to be implemented for non-cumulative key figure BALANCE Special settings in BWOM_SETTINGS table needed for BALANCE to be filled by the extractor on ERP side (example: For direct access reporting from ERP) No SAP delivered BI content available
IBM Proprietary | © 2017 IBM Corporation
31
Do the BW Data Sources still work? Existing BW data sources, for example, 0FI_AR_30 (Customer LineItems), 0FI_AP_30 (Vendor LineItems) continue to work as SAP provides compatibility views, fpr example, BSID, BSAD, BSIK, BSAK to support ‗legacy‘ tables.
Asset Accounting extractors - 0FI_AA_11 & 0FI_AA_12 do not work. No standard business content available for Asset reporting. G/L Account: Company Code-Dependent Attributes of DS - 0GL_ACCOUNT_COCD_ATTR do not work. KEDV summarization levels are obsolete in S/4 HANA with the only exception of the extraction of account-based data to BW. Following FI-GL extractors continue to work for ledgers specified below.
IBM Proprietary | © 2017 IBM Corporation
32
What about impact to LO extractions with S/4HANA & BW 7.5/BW4HANA? After migration or post implementation of S4HANA by default LO extractors are not enabled as in ECC system. LO business content can be installed through RSA5 and activate through RSA6 but filling of the setup table for the extractors are not possible because T-Codes like LBWE will not contain any data source; setup table filling t-codes are not able to fill the data and will get errors when accessing transaction code OLI*BW for instance. To make the LO extractor setup table based configuration available, you perform the following steps:
1
RSA5
3
Maintain the mappings
2
Make setup table and extract structure is active in the system
IBM Proprietary | © 2017 IBM Corporation
33
What about impact to LO extractions with S/4HANA & BW 7.5/BW4HANA? (continued) 4
Now trigger the setup table jobs through OLI7BW
5
Test through RSA3 on if data is now available
6
Establish the source system connection between BW & S/4HANA whether through ODP or through standard system mapping – Recommendation as per SAP roadmap is to go with ODP type

How to check if CDS views is enabled for extraction? With the name of an existing CDS view or S/4HANA ‗eliminated‘ table, several approaches could be used to check the detailed DDL definition of the (underlying) CDS view. From there the dataExtraction.enabled property can be checked further.

How to perform BW extraction from S/4HANA CDS based VDMs? Through ODP
•
•
• •
IBM Proprietary | © 2017 IBM Corporation
With this option, the ETL procedure is to extract data from SAP S/4HANA to SAP BW through a dedicated Operational Data Provider (ODP) source system type as shown. For each CDS view in the source system, there is a corresponding Open ODS view in BW. After datasource creation, with this Open ODS view you can directly consume the definition of the CDS in the source system. The ODP name of the source object is exactly the name of the CDS view you were looking at in the source system. This gives you the possibility to have one interface on the source system side for direct access in the source system and for data provisioning from the source into BW as well.
