A PROPOSED POINT OF SALES OF SOLANO BICYCLE CENTER, SOLANO NUEVA VIZCAYA Chapter I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND 1.1 Introduction In today’s generation, technology plays a big role in our modern day lives. As electronic technology develops, personal devices like computer are commonly used. It is an electronic dataprocessing device that performs tasks, such as mathematical calculations or electronic communication, under the control of a set of instructions called a program. Programs usually reside within the computer's main memory and are retrieved and processed by the computer's electronics, and the program results are stored or routed to output devices, such as video display monitors or printers. Point of Sale System (POS) a computerized network operated by a main computer and linked to several checkout terminals. POS software records each sale when it happens, so your inventory records are always up-to-date. Better still, you get much more information about the sale than you could gather with a manual system. By running reports based on this information, you can make better decisions about ordering and merchandising. 1.2 Background of the Study Solano Bicycle Center, owned and managed by Mr. and Mrs. Henry R. Catama Sr., is a business establishment located at Gen. A. Luna Street, Poblacion South, Solano, Nueva Vizcaya. Mr. Catama, which is a bicycle repairman in her Aunt’s bicycle shop, came up with the idea of building this type of business. Solano Bicycle Center was founded on February 1991, with only five bicycles to sell. It has been operating for over 23 years and also has a branch located at the same street and barangay. They sell bicycles for kids and adults, surplus japan bicycle, bicycle parts and accessories. They also accept bicycle repair. The shop provides customer satisfaction, the reason why it becomes a success to the owners. As a result, Solano Bicycle Center not only have customers in Nueva Vizcaya, but also outside the province like Ifugao and Isabela. Point of Sales System of Solano Bicycle Center is manually done since it was established. The owner is responsible in making the monthly sales report and inventory by manually searching for the information’s that are kept to filing cabinet, files like sales transaction and purchased order. The owner uses calculator in computing the sales, manually writing a receipt for the customer and manually searching for the availability of the products. The owner believes that today’s technology is offering enough for them to achieve the said goal.
1.3 OBJECTIVES General Objectives To design and construct a Point of Sale system in Solano Bicycle Center to improve their managing technique and customer service. To creatively and collaboratively create an automated system that would take care of the Point of Sale in Solano Bicycle Center. Given a small amount of time to submit this project, we should come up with a design using various Windows-based programs. Specific Objectives Easily record sales transactions, manages item pricing and offered discounts. To design a relational database for Point of Sale System Primary interface and programming will be implemented with Visual Basic.
1.4 Statement of the problem Solano Bicycle center is working under manual method which sometimes causes customer dissatisfaction because of the slow process on how they transact to their customers and some errors that are not expected. With this manual method, the owner interested in finding ways that can help to improve their customer services. In this study, the researcher will hopefully come up with a proposed solution to outdate the existing problems encountered in the current system. 1.5 Proposed Solution After the researchers have analyzed and discussed the problem regarding the Point of Sale of Solano Bicycle Center, the researcher aims to present a paradigm of dealing with the problems by creating an automated Point of Sale System. 1. Use Visual Programming The researcher will be using Visual Basic. Net as a tool to manipulate data in the database created from Microsoft Visual Studio 2012. Since Visual Basic is object-oriented it could improves database features and add-ons to design. This tool use objects like forms, command buttons, navigation bars, text boxes, etc. 2. User’s Manual The group will use Visual Basic help file as a tool to create a built in help to guide the users on how to operate the Point of Sale System Software.
3. Security Level The users will be given a level of security in accessing database, either as an Administration, so they cannot manipulate all the data in the database. 1.6 Significant of the Study This study aims to provide a Point of Sale System for the Solano Bicycle Center that would be able to augment the efficiency and accuracy of the data processing. This deems to make necessary changes in their current system in order to reduce time consumption and underlying errors in the job. For the researcher, a computer engineering student, who will be specializing mostly in programming and designing in the future, the development of a Point of Sale System, will be beneficial in boosting and discovering more knowledge in the field and thus will be a challenging comprehensive training in the part of the researcher.
1.7 Scope and Delimitation The scope of which dwells in the Documentation and Prototyping of a custom-built computer-based system- in our discretion, have come up with a propose Point of Sale System of Solano Bicycle Center. Due to the time constrains, the developers are expected not to come up with the fully tested, complete program package but a prototype to present the interface and functionality the design has lain out. The use of the proposed Point of Sale System can only be used by Mr. Henry Catama, who is the main client of the project.
