HEAD COACHES WADE PHILLIPS (61-42, 7TH YEAR, 13-3 - DAL.) Wade Phillips was named the seventh head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on Feb. 8, 2007. Phillips, now in his 32nd year as an NFL coach, has guided his teams to four playoff appearances with only one non-winning season. His first season in Dallas was no exception as the Cowboys tied the franchise record with 13 wins. En route to a 13-3 record, Dallas captured the 20th division title in franchise history. Under Phillips' guidance, the Cowboys sent a league record 13 players to the Pro Bowl. Phillips had head coaching stops with the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills. He also served as an interim head coach in New Orleans in 1985 (1-3 record) and Atlanta in 2003 (2-1). The last seven times Phillips has taken over as a head coach or defensive coordinator, his new team has reached the playoffs in his first season. Over the last 19 years as a head coach or coordinator, he has been a part of only four teams with non-winning records. During that span, his defenses have ranked in the NFL's top-10 nine times. He served as the defensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers for three seasons before landing in Dallas. He spent two years (2002-03) as the defensive coordinator in Atlanta. From 1998-2000 he was Buffalo's head coach and was its defensive coordinator (1995-97) after a two-year stint as Denver's head coach (1993-94). He served as the Broncos defensive coordinator for four seasons (1989-92). He was the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator and linebackers coach (1986-88) after serving as the Saints defensive coordinator (1981-85). He made his coaching debut in 1976 under his father, Bum, with the Houston Oilers (linebackers) then coached the defensive line from 1977-1980.
ROMEO CRENNEL (20-28, 4th Year) Romeo Crennel took the reigns of the Cleveland Browns on Feb. 8, 2005 to become the 11th head coach in team history. After opening his head coaching career with a 6-10 record in 2005 and a 4-12 record in 2006, Crennel’s Browns team finished 2007 with a 10-6 record, including a franchisebest seven consecutive home wins. At the end of the season, six Browns were selected to the Pro Bowl. Crennel has 38 years of coaching experience, including 27 years in the NFL. He has appeared in six Super Bowls (XXI and XXV N.Y. Giants and XXXI, XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX - New England) with five wins. He helped guide the New England Patriots to Super Bowl victories in 2001, 2003 and 2004 as the defensive coordinator (2001 and 2004) and the defensive coordinator/defensive line coach (2002-03). He previously coached in Cleveland (2000) as the club’s defensive coordinator/defensive line coach. He also had stops with the N.Y. Jets (1997-99 - defensive line), New England Patriots (1993-96 - defensive line) and the N.Y. Giants (1981-82 special teams/defensive assistant, 1983-89 - special teams and 1990-92 defensive line). He coached collegiately at Georgia Tech (1980), Mississippi (1978-79), Texas Tech (1975-77) and his alma mater, Western Kentucky (1970-74). He was a four-year starting defensive lineman at Western Kentucky, earning team MVP honors as a senior. Crennel earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s while serving as a graduate assistant at Western Kentucky (1970).

Along the way, Romo set numerous single-season club passing records, including touchdown passes (36), passing yards (4,211), 300-yard games (seven), and his completion percentage of 64.4% was the sixth-highest single-season mark in club history. He led the NFC in yards-perattempt (8.10) and was second in the conference in yards and third in completion percentage. Romo has now started 26 regular season games and owns a record of 19-7. Through his career, he has completed 555 of his 857 attempts for 7,114 yards with 55 touchdowns and 32 interceptions. He now has 10 career 300-yard outings which ties Danny White for the second-most in club history behind Troy Aikman’s 13. The Dallas Cowboys called on seasoned veteran Brad Johnson to become the club’s backup quarterback in 2007, a position he returns for in 2008. Johnson, a proven quarterback in the league, is also one of the league’s most accurate. With a 61.8 career completion percentage, Johnson ranks fifth in the NFL among quarterbacks with over 3,000 attempts. He is tied with Jim Plunkett and Daryle Lamonica for 52nd place on the NFL’s all-time passing list (164). As a starter, Johnson has racked up a 71-51 record (.582 winning percentage) and did not throw an interception in 48 of those starts. He holds the league record for consecutive seasons with a completion percentage over 60.0 (11) and has two Pro Bowl selections along with a Super Bowl XXXVII Championship - Tampa Bay (2002). As a starting quarterback, Johnson has led three teams (Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Washington) to the playoffs. In his first season in Dallas, Johnson saw extended action in the season finale at Washington and completed seven-of-11 passes for 79 yards his only passing statistics of the season.
Marion Barber has displayed an explosive and energetic running style that has provided a spark to the Dallas running game and allowed the fourth-year player to earn his first career trip to the Pro Bowl in 2007 despite spending the season as a reserve. He established career numbers for carries (204) and rushing yards (975) while adding 10 touchdowns in 2007. He returns in 2008 as the most experienced rusher on the Dallas depth chart. In continuing with the recent trend of a two-running back system, the Cowboys used their first pick in the 2008 draft on a running back that left the collegiate ranks as only the fourth running back in NCAA history to average over 7.0 yards-per-carry. Felix Jones is slated to complement Marion Barber and is no stranger to a two-back system after spending his collegiate career sharing the backfield with Darren McFadden. Dallas added to its backfield depth once again in the 2008 NFL Draft by selecting Tashard Choice in the fourth round. Choice left Georgia Tech as the first running back in school history to top 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons while also leading the ACC in rushing both years. Deon Anderson will take over as the club’s starting fullback after starting four games and playing in eight as a rookie last season. He is a natural fullback, that was selected in the sixth round (195th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. His rookie season was slowed after tearing his right rotator cuff and spending the second half of the season on the club’s injured reserve list.

He enters the 2008 season just 17 yards shy of becoming the sixth Dallas pass catcher to reach 4,000 career receiving yards. He is also 52 catches shy of becoming the fifth pass catcher to catch at least 400 passes. Behind Owens and Crayton, several young receivers will be counted on to make an impact impact for the Cowboys this season. Sam Hurd and Miles Austin, who both made the club as rookie free agents in 2006 and benefitted from increased playing time last year will start the season as gameday inactives. Hurd suffered a high ankle sprain in the final preseason game while Austin sprained his knee in the preseason contest at Denver. Working through his first full training camp, second-year receiver Isaiah Stanback showed splashes of comprehending the receiver position after making the transition from college quarterback to pro receiver last year. After a draft-day trade that sent 2006 second round selection Anthony Fasano to Miami, the Dallas Cowboys showed their dependency on a quality tight end when they selected Martellus Bennett in the second round (61st overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. Through the preseason, Bennett has displayed his ability as a pass catcher, shedding tackles for 71 yards on six catches. He continues to work on his ability as a quality blocker in order to become a well-rounded tight end in the mold of Witten. Tony Curtis returns for his third season in Dallas after seeing time in all 16 games as a reserve in 2007. The 2007 season saw Curtis record his first three receptions - all touchdowns - while also proving his worth as a capable run blocker.
OFFENSIVE LINE As one of the biggest and most powerful offensive lines in the league in 2007, the Dallas Cowboys return all five starters from last year in left tackle Flozell Adams, left guard Kyle Kosier, center Andre Gurode, right guard Leonard Davis and right tackle Marc Colombo. Behind the O-Line’s work, the Dallas offense finished second in the NFC, third in the league, averaging 365.7 yards-per-game. The club racked up 455 points, the second-most behind the 1983 squad’s 479. The Dallas line was also well represented in the Pro Bowl, sending Adams for his fourth appearance - second consecutive Gurode for his second consecutive and Davis for his first trip. The line will lose some consistency to start the season after Kosier suffered a foot injury in the Houston game and may be sidelined for several weeks. With Kosier sidelined with a foot injury suffered in the preseason game against Houston, Cory Procter - who started two games at center in place of Gurode (knee) last season will step in to start at left guard Pat McQuistan (Dallas’ 2006 seventh round selection), along with two of Dallas’ 2007 draft picks - James Marten (third round) and Doug Free (fourth) will remain in a reserve role at tackle. All three have the ability to play more than one position and will continue to learn from some of the best this season. Joe Berger, in his fourth year, will backup both the guard and center positions and Montrae Holland - acquired in a trade with Denver leading up to the season opener - round out the depth on the offensive line.
TIGHT END At the top of the tight end depth chart lies fifth-year man and four-time Pro Bowler Jason Witten. With his selection to the 2007 Pro Bowl, Witten now trails only Jay Novacek (five) for the most Pro Bowl appearances by a Dallas tight end. Through his five seasons, Witten has emerged as one of the most prolific tight ends in club history. The 2007 season was no exception as Witten established franchise tight end records for catches (96), receiving yards (1,145) and a career-high seven touchdown catches. He became the first Dallas tight end and 13th tight end in league history to top

Linebacker Greg Ellis finished second on the team with a career-best 12.5 sacks to earn his first career trip to the Pro Bowl while also being named as the NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Top Linebacker Sack Leaders
LINEBACKER When the Dallas Cowboys transitioned to the 3-4 defense three years ago, Bradie James may have benefitted the most from the change. As the signal caller of the defense, James notched 100-plus tackles and led the team in tackles each of the previous three seasons, including a career-high 132 tackles in 2006. He posted 130 stops last year and led or tied for the team lead in tackles eight times. The only newcomer to Dallas’ starting defense this year is 12-year veteran and seven-time Pro Bowler Zach Thomas, who will be starting alongside James at inside linebacker. Thomas came to Dallas this year via free agency from Miami and has reached the 100-tackle mark in each of his first 11 seasons. He also had 168 career starts with the Dolphins, the most ever by a club defensive player and the fourth-most by any player in Miami history. Coming off his second consecutive Pro Bowl season, Ware displayed his pass rushing prowess last season, finishing second in the league - tops among league linebackers - with a single-season club linebacker record 14.0 sacks. With his 11.5 sacks in 2006, Ware became the first Dallas defender to post consecutive double-digit sack seasons since Tony Tolbert accomplished that feat in 199495. Ware also led the team in sacks for the third consecutive season to become the first player in club history to lead or tie for the team lead in sacks in each of his first three seasons.
DEFENSIVE LINE Both Marcus Spears and Chris Canty return to man the starting defensive end positions after seeing their production increase in the defense last season. Both have started all 16 games in each of their previous two seasons after seeing time as reserves during their rookie season (2005). Spears had a career-high 2.5 sacks last season along with a career-best six tackles for losses (second on the team). Canty also put up career-highs in 2007 with 46 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Jay Ratliff resumes the role as the club’s starting nose tackle after successfully switching from defensive end last season. With the loss of Jason Ferguson (biceps) in the first 7
PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- DEFENSE (cont.) defensive line, cont. week of the season, Ratliff was called upon to clog the middle for the Dallas defense. He responded by starting the next 14 games and finished with career-bests in tackles (28) and tackles for losses (four). With his versatility, Ratliff may also be used as a pass rushing defensive end in reserve packages. With the loss of Ferguson last season, Dallas signed Tank Johnson to provide experienced depth at nose tackle. Although he spent his first six weeks on the club’s reserve/suspended list serving a league-mandated suspension, Johnson saw time in eight games with one start. With a full offseason under his belt, Johnson is now acclimated to the Dallas defense. Jason Hatcher, a 2006 third round choice, has been a solid contributor along the line last season through his first two pro seasons, seeing action in 30 games. He finished his rookie campaign with 13 stops and seven quarterback pressures, then upped those totals with 35 tackles and nine pressures in 2007. Third-year man Stephen Bowen will also help to provide depth on the line after seeing time in all 16 games last season, posting 23 tackles. He played in just one game with Dallas as a rookie free agent in 2006.
Draft. He not only has displayed his ability as a cover corner, but is also a game-breaking punt returner, with four returns for touchdowns. The Cowboys also addressed their need at cornerback in the 2008 NFL Draft. With their second pick in the first round (25th overall), the Cowboys selected Mike Jenkins. He displayed his ability to make plays on defense, racking up 133 tackles, 41 pass breakups and six interceptions in four years at South Florida. Dallas picked up another corner in the draft, selecting Orlando Scandrick in the fifth round (143rd overall). He not only has the ability to make plays on defense, but can be a solid special teams contributor after blocking seven kicks through his collegiate career. Last season the Cowboys claimed Evan Oglesby off waivers (Baltimore) to add young depth in the secondary. Oglesby played in eight games, mainly on special teams, in 2007 and will once again be counted on to provide support in a reserve role. Alan Ball was drafted in the seventh round (237th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft to give Dallas added depth and youth in the secondary. He spent most of his rookie season adjusting to the pro game on Dallas’ practice squad but was activated for the final three games of the season. Roy Williams returns to strong safety in 2008 after earning his fifth straight Pro Bowl selection. He will once again be counted on to do what he does best - hit. In 2007 Williams finished the season second on the team with his third career 100-tackle performance. He product of durability, he has played in 95-of-96 possible career games, missing only one game due to a suspension for a horse-collar tackle. Ken Hamlin will once again quarterback the secondary from his free safety spot. He joined Dallas in free agency leading up to the 2007 season and had a career-year, establishing personal highs in tackles (102) and interceptions (five) en route to his first career Pro Bowl selection. Hamlin’s future in Dallas was solidified this past offseason as he signed a six-year contract. Behind Hamlin, is third-year safety Patrick Watkins who will continue to see time in nickel and dime packages. He was thrown into the mix early in his rookie season, starting nine of the 14 games he played in. Courtney Brown, one of Dallas’ 2007 seventh round draft choices, will continue to battle for playing time after moving from corner to safety at the start of the 2007 training camp.
SECONDARY Dallas will start the season off with both of their starting cornerbacks on the field, a rare occurance from 2007. Terence Newman, who suffered through a heel injury the beginning of last season, returns healthy after earning his first career Pro Bowl selection following the 2007 season. Despite playing in only 13 games, Newman tied his careerhigh with four interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown for his first career defensive score. Anthony Henry will start opposite Newman in his fourth season in Dallas. Despite suffering a high ankle sprain against St. Louis (9/30) last season, Henry still managed to lead the defense with six interceptions in 13 games. The Cowboys nickel defensive package will highlight Dallas newcomer Adam Jones, who was acquired in a draft day trade with the Tennessee Titans. Jones, who served a league-mandated suspension for off-field issues last season, missed the entire 2007 season, but was fully reinstated by Commissioner Goodell Aug. 28. He arrived in Dallas as a former first round selection (sixth overall) in the 2005 NFL

Jones is back in familiar territory as he handled kickoff returns at Arkansas, leaving the collegiate ranks as the NCAA’s ninth-ranked returner with a career average of 28.2 yards-per-return. Jenkins also excelled in his senior campaign as a kick return specialist, averaging 30.4 yards with his first return of the season going for a 100-yard touchdown. Both Terence Newman and Patrick Crayton may see time returning punts, but the full time role will be handled by Adam Jones. Jones, an explosive punt returner while with the Tennessee Titans, has a career average of 11.2 yardsper-return. In the 2006 season, Jones averaged 12.9 yardsper-return with three returns for a touchdown, including a 90-yarder.
KICKING GAME Punter Mat McBriar has become one of the NFL’s premier punters in just four seasons and holds six of the club’s top-10 single-game highs for gross average, the top-two spots for single-season gross average and the second-best single-game net average. He finished 2007 fourth in the league with a 47.1 gross and seventh with a 38.5 net average. Just one year removed from a Pro Bowl, McBriar also has a streak of 275 consecutive punts without a block - second in team record books behind Danny White’s 341. For his career, he averages a booming 44.7 gross average with 89 dropped inside opponents’ 20-yard line. The Cowboys may have found the permanent solution at place kicker - a position that has given the club trouble recently. Nick Folk, one of Dallas’ sixth round choices in the 2007 NFL Draft, will once again handle the place kicking duties after becoming the first Cowboys rookie to be selected to the Pro Bowl since Emmitt Smith (1990), and the thirdever Dallas kicker (first rookie kicker) to make the all-star trip. He finished his rookie season fourth among kickers with 131 points to establish a club rookie scoring record. He converted all 53 PATs and was true on 26-of-31 field goals. Deep snapper Louis-Philippe Ladouceur signed with Dallas prior to their Week Four contest at Oakland in 2005 and has been solid and mistake-free on 196 punts, 86 field goals and 122 PATs since joining the team.
